Earthquake strikes SA's Northern Cape

Date: Dec 22, 2024

A 5.3 magnitude earthquake has struck an area near the town of Brandvlei in the Northern Cape province of South Africa (SA).

According to the German Research Centre for Geosciences, the quake occurred at a depth of ten kilometres. Fortunately, there have been no reports of deaths, injuries, or damage to property.

Historically, SA has not experienced high-magnitude earthquakes.

However, experts have warned that the country is not immune to such seismic events. This recent quake serves as a reminder of the potential risks and the importance of preparedness in the face of natural disasters.
