At least 79 people have died, with schools, roads, and health facilities severely affected. The search for missing victims is still ongoing.
Ramaphosa visited the province to assess the flood damage and expressed his appreciation for the coordinated efforts across all spheres of government.
"The way that our departments at national, provincial, and local level responded to this disaster that, to me, shows the capability of our government in responding to disasters like this. As the Premier has said, it could have been much worse than this. Obviously, we are very, very disturbed that so many people lost their lives, but it could have been much worse. The response teams acted quickly," said Ramaphosa.
