SA President to visit country's Nuclear Medicine Research Infrastructure Facility

Date: Jun 24, 2025

South Africa's (SA) Cyril Ramaphosa will conduct an oversight visit to the Nuclear Medicine Research Infrastructure Facility at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital in Pretoria, in the Gauteng province, on Tuesday.

The facility is a one-stop medical imaging centre dedicated to cancer and tuberculosis drug development and clinical research.

The President will be joined by the Minister of Health, Aaron Motsoaledi, Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, and Gauteng Health and Wellness Member of the Executive Council Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko.

The Nuclear Medicine Research Infrastructure Facility has been described as world-class and enjoys significant support from the private sector.

Ramaphosa will also conduct an oversight visit to the cardiac catheterisation laboratory, which is part of the radiology department.

The Presidency says that Ramaphosa’s visit to the hospital will highlight SA's commitment to scientific innovation, equitable access to healthcare, and integrated infrastructure investment.
