ANC Secretary-General, Fikile Mbalula says the sentencing of Sibusiso Ncengwa reaffirms the principle that no act of political violence will go unpunished.
Ncengwa pleaded guilty to Magaqa's murder in the Pietermaritzburg High Court, where he was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment, after he was convicted on a total of 11 charges. Magaqa was injured when attackers opened fire on his car in July 2017 and died in hospital months later.
Mbalula says no amount of punishment can bring back the life of a revolutionary servant of the people.
“This ruling sends a strong message that our democracy will not tolerate violence as a means of silencing any voices,” Mbalula said.
