This follows the deaths of three people due to malaria and the recording of more than 500 cases.
The fatalities occurred in Bela Bela, Thabazimbi, and Lephalale in Limpopo province. Health Department Spokesperson Neil Shikwambana said the cases were recorded in areas not typically associated with high malaria transmission.
"The analysis of this death tells us that they happened in areas of Waterberg that is Bela Bela and Thabazimbi, which are naturally not too much. You don't have too much people getting malaria, and those areas as compared to your part of Vhembe, Mopani and so on. So it could have been more of cross border or transmitted through movements," he said.
Shikwambana emphasised the importance of seeking timely treatment, as malaria is curable if detected early.
"And malaria is dangerous when you do not consult, it's curable 100% curable, and it's easy to cure because it can be cured at the primary health care facility, but once you stay and not treat it, it becomes deadly," he added.
