SAPS top brass briefed Parliament's Portfolio Committee Police on how technology is used in crime fighting, as well as modernising the Central Firearm Register.

Head of Technology Management Service at SAPS, General Edith Mavundla says among others, drones have been introduced in crime fighting operations.

"Remotely piloted aircrafts, that we have, although not many, does provide aerial surveillance during large events or rescue operations, reduces risk of officers covering dangerous or inaccessible areas as well."
