Kenyans relentless in fight against poverty, Activist

Date: Jun 26, 2025

Kenyan activist Marylize Biubwa says they will not relent in fighting against the high cost of living in their country.

Protesters took to the streets yesterday to mark the first anniversary of anti-tax demonstrations in which at least 60 people were killed.

More people have reportedly lost their lives and hundreds were injured during the protest on Wednesday.

The Communications Authority of Kenya said it ordered all television and radio stations to stop any live coverage of the demonstrations or face unspecified regulatory action.

The move sparked outrage among journalists and activists, who call it an attack on press freedom.

Biubwa says they will continue fighting for a better living.

"There’s so much force that is being used against peaceful protesters. There’s so much that is being used to discourage women from participating in the protest because they’re threatening with gender based violence. And we do have plenty of the people who have been drafted.
We want a more affordable cost of living in Kenya.

But also, we no longer want people in the office. They have looted all that you could potentially lead from the country. Kenyans want their country back and Kenyans are clear on that. We will keep fighting if it’s the last thing we do for our country, Kenya."
