Date: Oct 13, 2023

Janet Yetta Love has been appointed as the new Commissioner of South Africa's Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

She will serve for a term of seven years, along with four other commissioners.

Love was selected from a pool of candidates who were interviewed by a panel chaired by the Chief Justice and comprising the heads of the Human Rights Commission, the Gender Equality Commission and the Public Protector.

The panel was established in accordance with the Electoral Commission Act.

Love is a former anti-apartheid activist, and human rights lawyer. She will join four other Commissioners who are responsible for overseeing the conduct of free and fair elections in the country.
