The suspect was found in possession of over 10 million images and videos of child pornography at his residence. Additionally, police discovered drugs on the premises.
SAPS Spokesperson Amanda van Wyk confirmed the suspect's involvement in a distribution network for child pornography. "We collaborated with international law enforcement, where they shared information with us, identifying a target in South Africa. We then furthered the investigation, revealing the suspect's location, leading to the takedown you see behind us," van Wyk stated.
Van Wyk highlighted the impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution on the rise of cybercrimes, noting that similar arrests were made in December. "We arrested a 41-year-old former teacher in Pretoria and a 49-year-old suspect, both facing multiple charges related to possession, distribution, accessing, and downloading of child pornography," she added.
