Sixty-four cases of measles reported in SA's province

Date: Jul 3, 2025

The Free State province Health Department in South Africa (SA) has confirmed 64 reported cases of measles in the Lejweleputswa District’s, Nala, Masilonyana, Matjhabeng and Tswelopele local municipalities.

The Department’s Mondli Mvambi says affected children are aged between five and nine years.

The Health Department has called on parents and caregivers to take children to the nearest healthcare facility if they have symptoms that include fever, runny nose, red rash and conjunctivitis.

Mvambi says measles is a highly contagious viral infection that can lead to serious health complications and stressed the importance of vigilance for symptoms.

A plea has also been made to ensure that children are vaccinated against measles.
