In a strongly worded statement delivered by Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric on Thursday, the Secretary-General condemned recent Israeli military strikes that have killed and injured scores of Palestinians, including those sheltering at displacement sites or seeking access to essential supplies.
“On just one day this week, nearly 30 000 people were forced to flee under new Israeli relocation orders,” Dujarric said.
“There is no safe place to go and inadequate supplies of shelter, food, medicine or water.”
Guterres expressed grave concern that “the last lifelines for survival are being cut off,” noting that no fuel has entered Gaza in more than 17 weeks. This is threatening to shut down critical infrastructure, including incubators, ambulances, water purification systems and humanitarian delivery operations.
