The party’s Deputy President, Alfred Gangata, said the demonstration is intended to defend the constitutional right to protest without fear of intimidation or interference.
Speaking ahead of the march, Gangata said the event would be conducted in a calm and orderly manner. “We want to show that Malawians have the right to express themselves freely, as long as it’s done peacefully,” he said.
The DPP has accused the current administration of creating an increasingly hostile environment for opposition voices. The planned protest is expected to draw hundreds of supporters from across the region.
