Attendees explored opportunities and solutions to drive a sustainable future, shaping the path forward for the globe.
Dr Achieng Ojwang, Executive Director of Global Compact Network SA, says the conference provided an opportunity to explore how the country can unlock economic growth while preserving its natural resources for future generations. Nations need to do more to align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
“If you just look at SA as a good example, SA has aligned sustainable development goals to its national development framework and plans. If you look at, even the short-term strategic frameworks, it reflects our priority SDGs as SA,” Ojwang said.
The conference comes on the backdrop of increasing geo-political tensions and Ojwang says sustainability is key.
“There is that massive push-back to inclusivity, to sustainability. What we need to do as advocates for sustainability, is to push forward and to recommit to sustainability,” she said.
