The ban prevents citizens from these nations from entering the US as part of President Donald Trump’s intensified efforts to block what his administration calls “foreign terrorists.”
The move has sparked strong reactions across the affected African countries. Chad’s President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno condemned the ban and ordered his government to suspend visa issuance to US citizens, declaring that while Chad cannot match the lavish gifts or investments offered by wealthier nations, it will defend its dignity and pride.
Many Africans connected to the US, including those involved in American-funded projects, fear the ban will force them back to unstable or dangerous conditions.
US critics, including Democratic lawmakers, have labelled the policy “draconian” and unconstitutional, arguing it violates the right to seek asylum.
