Sudan Air strike leaves hundreds dead in Darfur

Date: Mar 25, 2025

A Sudanese war monitor has accused the military of carrying out an air strike on a market in North Darfur, killing hundreds of people.

The country remains embroiled in a near two-year conflict between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a power struggle that has led to what the United Nations describes as the world's worst humanitarian crisis.

The Emergency Lawyers Group, a war monitor, stated that army warplanes launched an indiscriminate attack on the market, resulting in mass casualties. Another activist group in the region also reported significant loss of life from a bombing on Monday.

Footage circulating on social media shows smouldering market stalls and bodies burned beyond recognition. The RSF, which controls much of Darfur, has accused the military of committing a massacre. The army has not yet responded to the allegations.

The ongoing war has plunged Sudan into a dire humanitarian crisis, with half of the country's 50 million people suffering from acute hunger, particularly in areas controlled or threatened by the RSF.
