The group of Afrikaners departed for the US over the weekend, following an Executive Order by US President Donald Trump that expedited their path to citizenship. While their move has sparked debate, Kriel emphasised that AfriForum respects the individuals’ choice but remains committed to its mission in SA.
“It’s not our decision, that’s a personal decision made by each individual,” Kriel said.
“The decision we’ve taken as AfriForum is that the only place Afrikaners can survive as a cultural community is in SA. To survive as a cultural community, you need to have an Afrikaner cultural environment.”
Kriel reiterated that AfriForum, along with institutions within the Solidarity Movement, will continue to work towards ensuring a future for Afrikaners in SA.
