Kabila, who was in South Africa to meet with former President Thabo Mbeki in Johannesburg, discussed the conflict in the eastern DRC and emphasised the importance of local solutions.
Speaking at the Thabo Mbeki Foundation, Kabila expressed his continued commitment to peacebuilding, reflecting on his approach during the historic Sun City peace talks 22 years ago.
"We are ready to work and still work for peace, actively work for peace, and that was our attitude 22 years ago when we came to Sun City. Our attitude today, more informed, is different. We stand up again, be on the move, and work for peace in any capacity," Kabila stated.
Kabila also welcomed the Southern African Development Community's decision to withdraw troops from the DRC, signalling a shift towards empowering Congolese citizens to take ownership of the peace process.
Nyuykonge highlighted the significance of Kabila's remarks, noting that his position outside of office allows him to "speak truth to power."
Nyuykonge underscored the importance of internal solutions in addressing the DRC's challenges, aligning with Kabila's call for DRC-led efforts to achieve lasting peace.
