SA working with DRC to repatriate 13 SANDF soldiers’ bodies

Date: Jan 28, 2025

South African National Defence Force (SANDF) says Pretoria and Kinshasa are working together to bring back the bodies of the soldiers killed in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

SA has lost 13 SANDF members since last Friday.

SANDF Spokesperson Siphiwe Dlamini says the SA soldiers were not involved in the fighting but were caught in the crossfire between the M23 rebels and the DRC army.

He says the fighting took place near the SANDF base.

Dlamini says, “They are being prepared for repatriation, but that will only take place as soon as all processes around preparing the body in terms of postmortems have been completed. I would not be able to give a date as to when they will be back home because of the volatility situation in the Congo.”
