Sudan conflict received limited international attention: ICRC

Date: Jul 16, 2024

Sudan has been inundated in a devastating armed conflict for the past 14 months, a country already weakened by a history of protracted wars.

The International Committee of the Red Cross says it believes the conflict has received limited international attention as global focus shifts to other crises.

The ongoing clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces since April 2023 have intensified, leading to severe shortages of water, power, food, and medical supplies for civilians.

Historically, Sudan has endured three major conflicts,1955-1972, Conflict between the Muslim populations of the North and the majority Christians and animists of the South.

The current conflict has resulted in a significant increase in refugees fleeing to neighbouring countries, worsening an already catastrophic humanitarian situation.
