SA Deputy Minister urges parents to report sexual abuse cases

Date: Dec 30, 2024

South Arica’s (SA) Police Deputy Minister Polly Boshielo has called on parents to report cases of sexual abuse against children to the police.

Boshielo was speaking at the Seshego Magistrate’s Court in Polokwane in Limpopo province where a 28-year-old man who allegedly impregnated a 13-year-old girl made his first appearance.

The man faces a count of statutory rape and another of sexual grooming.

The case has been postponed to 8 January next year.

Boshielo says perpetrators of sexual abuse should be prosecuted.

“We are going to make sure that our detectives who are in Seshego get them and if you hide them as a parent, you are also a perpetrator. We are going to also arrest you. So, parents who also don’t report this, we are going to deal with them and I’m saying this for women. You can see that you can’t do anything. We are going to make sure that our children are safe, and it is our responsibility in terms of the law to make sure that they are safe.”
