The man was found guilty and sentenced by the Eshowe Regional Court in the KwaZulu-Natal province. The country’s National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says the abuse occurred while the children and their mother lived with the man.
The mother reported the case but died before the trial, prompting the prosecutor to apply for her statements to be admitted into evidence under Section 3 of SA’s Hearsay Evidence Act. NPA Regional Spokesperson, Natasha Ramkisson-Kara says the offences took place between 2015 and 2019.
“The children were aged between two and eight years-old at the time of the offenses. In addition, the court ordered that the man’s name be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders and that he be declared unfit to possess a firearm. An aggravating factor is that the accused was their father who should have been their protector, instead he became their perpetrator,” Kara said.
