SA Border Management Authority reports deterrent on illegal entries

Date: Apr 15, 2024

During the recent ten-day Easter operations, South Africa's Border Management Authority (BMA) reported a significant deterrent effect on illegal entries into the country.

The BMA's intensified efforts included deploying 400 junior bodyguards from college to reinforce their presence at the borders.

Despite an increase in the number of individuals attempting to cross the border, the BMA believes this reflects their enhanced operational capacity rather than a decrease in activities.

Over the holiday period, the BMA successfully managed the movement of over one million travellers through the nation's 71 ports of entry.

Commissioner Dr Michael Masiapato expressed confidence that the BMA's strategies are on track to reduce illegal migration, stating that true progress will be evident when attempts to enter the country unlawfully decline.

The BMA remains committed to its mission of maintaining secure and efficient border control.
