Alulutho Mazwi (25) died this week after allegedly being forced by his supervisor to report to work, even though he was ill.
It is reported that he fainted twice while on duty, before ultimately succumbing to his illness. The country’s the Public Servants Association (PSA) has lambasted the supervisor, claiming that it has consistently warned the provincial department of health about the inhumane working conditions and abuse of power at Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital. PSA Manager in KZN, Mlungisi Ndlovu is demanding the immediate precautionary suspension of the implicated supervisor.
“We call for the provincial government, the premier and the national minister of health, to attend to these issues because the interns in KZN are being abused. They, along with and all other frontline workers, are being ill-treated. This is a matter of urgency. It is for this reason that the PSA has visited the facility and we were able to listen to the pain of this interns that are continuously being abused by senior medical officers. That is why we call for urgent investigation,” Ndlovu said.
