The convoy came under fire near Rafah last week, sparking initial claims from Israel that the vehicles approached suspiciously in the dark, without headlights or emergency lights.
However, video footage released by the Palestine Red Crescent Society, filmed by one of the paramedics who was killed, clearly shows the vehicles with their headlights and emergency lights on. At least one worker can also be seen wearing a reflective uniform. This evidence contradicts Israel’s earlier explanation for the attack.
In light of this footage, an Israeli official admitted that the military’s original account was inaccurate. The official explained that soldiers had earlier fired on a car believed to be carrying three Hamas members, and when the emergency convoy stopped nearby, they assumed they were under threat. While Israel insists that at least six of the medics were connected to Hamas, no concrete evidence has been presented to back this claim.
