SA Parliament to meet on terms of reference ahead of Police Inquiry

Date: Jul 22, 2025

South Africa’s (SA) Parliament was on Tuesday expected to meet to discuss the terms of reference that will outline the work of an ad hoc committee, as a means for the institution to look into issues of national security

This, after the Speaker of the National Assembly, Thoko Didiza instructed portfolio committees on Police and Justice and Constitutional Development, as well as the Joint Standing Committee on Intelligence to consider, on an urgent basis, revelations by the Kwazulu-Natal Provincial Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, of political interference in police at the highest level.

Last week, the committees decided that it would recommend to the National Assembly that an ad hoc committee is the best vehicle to look into these matters. They must report back to the National Assembly on Wednesday.
