The announcement came during a Special Session of the WHO Regional Committee for Africa.
This nomination arrives as the gathering highlights the urgent need for strong leadership and accountability in addressing the health challenges faced by women, children, and adolescents across Africa.
At the same event, South Africa’s (SA) Health Minister, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, delivered the keynote speech at the Lives in the Balance high-level side event. SA currently chairs the Global Leaders Network, playing a key role in guiding health initiatives on the continent.
Speaking live from Geneva, Motsoaledi highlighted the importance of united efforts and responsible leadership to improve health outcomes for Africa’s most vulnerable populations.
