WSU Council has also taken a decision to establish an independent inquiry into the unrest.
One student was shot dead and several injured during protests at WSU in the Eastern Cape Province.
The suspect is set to appear in court next week Tuesday.
WSU Registrar Dr Lulamile Ntonzima says the resolutions follow a meeting by WSU Council on Thursday night.
"We welcome the arrest as WSU. The Council met on Thursday night and passed a decision of the suspension of the staff member that is currently arrested. And secondly, the Council agreed and passed the decision to remove the security company that was in conflict with students.
And lastly, to highlight the key division, the Council passed the establishment of independent inquiry on this incident, which will be led by the retired judge of our Constitutional Court, Justice Christopher Nyaole Jafta."
