Lungu passed away in a South African (SA) healthcare facility earlier this month. His remains will be repatriated to Lusaka on Wednesday. The days of mourning have also been extended to June 23.
Lungu's family and the Zambian government have been at the loggerheads since former Lungu died. Now, they have reached an agreement that the 6th Zambian President will be repatriated on Wednesday.
Zambian foreign affairs and international cooperation department led the talks with the Lungu's family to iron out their differences. His remains will be transported from SA to Zambia. On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, members of the public will be allowed to pay their last respects at Zambia’s Mulungushi Conference Centre. A state funeral will be held at the same venue next Sunday.
