High traffic volumes recorded on SA national roads

Traffic volumes have increased on South Africa’s (SA) national roads in Gauteng province as the festive season draws to a close and thousands of holidaymakers return home from various destinations.

Law enforcement agencies including Gauteng Traffic Wardens are conducting roadblocks focusing on drunk driving and speeding.

The N3 Toll Concession has already seen high traffic volumes with 2 000 vehicles per hour heading towards the province this weekend.

Gauteng Traffic Police Spokesperson Sello Marema says, “This morning and afternoon, Sunday, January 05, 2025, major routes in the province are expected to be busy as holidaymakers are returning back to the province.”

“Expected traffic hotspots: heavy traffic flows are expected on the following major routes: N1: Pretoria to Polokwane  44: Pretoria to Mpumalanga  N4: Pretoria to Rustenburg R573: Pretoria to Mpumalanga  N12: Johannesburg to Mpumalanga  N3: Johannesburg to Durban  N1: Johannesburg to Bloemfontein N12: Johannesburg to Potchefstroom,” adds Marema.
