SA resumes port operations after heavy rain disruptions

Date: Mar 27, 2025

The South African (SA) Border Management Authority (BMA) has announced the reopening of operations at the Groblersbridge and Stockpoort Ports of Entry with Botswana, following temporary closures caused by severe flooding earlier this month.

However, the Bray Port of Entry remains closed as persistent rains continue in the area.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner of the BMA, Mmemme Mogotsi, confirmed the progress made at Groblersbridge.

"Water levels have completely subsided, and the ground has now dried sufficiently to support the weight of cargo trucks passing through the port. The Port Management Committee has conducted a thorough inspection of key operational areas and is satisfied with the current conditions," Mogotsi stated.

Operations at Groblersbridge will officially resume at 14h00 CAT today, while Stockport Port of Entry resumed operations earlier this week.

Despite these advancements, Bray Port of Entry remains suspended, with operations expected to resume over the weekend, subject to further evaluations by the Port Management Committee.
