“Botswana’s UDC victory long overdue”

Date: Nov 1, 2024

Head of communications for the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) in Botswana, Moeti Mohwasa says his party's win is long overdue.

Earlier the Independent Electoral Commission announced that the UDC has 25 seats and are in need of six more to win full majority, while the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) is reported to only have won one seat in parliament.

Mohwasa says they are not surprised by the BDP losing, adding that the challenge now begins for them to build the nation..

No we're not surprised the decline of the BDP has been there for some time, in the last election in 2019 together with CIO, and government intelligence, they helped our people to rig elections, we went to court and unfortunately we were not allowed to continue with the verdict  our case was thrown out on technicalities. But the other thing we would like to say is that we will not really be focused on what the BDP has done or the negative stance that has been aimed at us, I think the major challenge for us it to build the nation.  Make sure we come together as a nation and go to a higher level.
