The accused made a brief appearance at the Durban High Court in the KwaZulu-Natal province, where the court heard that extradition proceedings for additional suspects in eSwatini remain ongoing.
Forbes and Motsoane were fatally shot outside a restaurant on Florida Road, a popular entertainment hub in Durban, in 2023. The five accused currently face multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and money laundering.
One of the defence attorneys representing the suspects was revealed to be in eSwatini, assisting two other individuals linked to the case who are seeking to appeal an order for their extradition to SA.
National Prosecuting Authority Spokesperson in KwaZulu-Natal, Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, explained the complexities surrounding the extradition process:
“If you remember, last year in August, the magistrate’s court in Manzini issued an order for the suspect to be extradited to SA. However, they filed a notice of appeal in response to that order. The prosecuting team then believed that the notice of appeal was filed out of time, and they wanted the court to consider that notice null and void. The prosecution then made an application to the court, but in November, the court ruled that the suspects had filed in time, leading to the dismissal of the application,” said Ramkisson-Kara.
