SA's G20 presidency aims to uplift the entire African continent: Deputy President

Date: Apr 7, 2025

South Africa’s (SA) Deputy President, Paul Mashatile, says the country’s developmental goals during its G20 presidency include the broader African continent.

Mashatile was speaking at the inaugural Ahmed Kathrada Legacy Business Breakfast this Monday morning in Illovo, Johannesburg, in Gauteng Province.
He emphasised that SA’s presidency has adopted the theme of solidarity, equality, and sustainability for the G20 summit and aims to leverage this leadership role to benefit not only SA but the continent as a whole.

“Our G20, we chose solidarity, equality, and sustainability,” Mashatile said. “We have then decided that we should use our precedence of the G20 to benefit the entire continent, involve the continent, not just SA.”

He reiterated the importance of the core values SA is championing during its presidency.

“And solidarity for us is very important. Equality is very important. Sustainability is very important. So, we should use the G20 to make sure that after our presidency, we can look back and say we were able to develop not only SA, but the continent.”
