She stated that these plans include public consultations on the development of new norms and standards. On Friday, President Cyril Ramaphosa authorised the implementation of the Act, including two contested sections that parties in the government of national unity discussed and agreed upon. Gwarube briefed the media in Parliament on Saturday.
"The development of the regulations, norms, standards, and policy will be determined by me in conjunction with the public, as the President has determined in the commencement presidential minute that he signed yesterday. Above all, I want to remind South Africans that we need to place children at the heart of everything that we do in making this BELA Act a reality. All 13-and-a-half million learners are my responsibility, and I will seek to protect them at all costs. Learners in SA deserve a quality education system, and I am committed to ensuring that happens and that they receive that at all times," Gwarube said.
