Bobi Wine set to challenge Museveni in Uganda’s 2026 Presidential race

Date: May 12, 2025

Ugandan opposition leader and musician Bobi Wine has announced his intention to run for President once again.

This, sets the stage for another high-stakes political battle against long-serving President Yoweri Museveni in the upcoming elections scheduled for January 12, 2026.

Wine, born Robert Kyagulanyi, has been a vocal critic of Uganda’s government, repeatedly condemning what he describes as gross human rights violations under Museveni’s rule. His latest remarks include criticism of the international community, accusing global powers of failing to hold the Ugandan government accountable for its alleged abuses.

“We are aware that the international community is enabling Uganda’s current government,” Wine said, expressing frustration over what he perceives as insufficient global pressure on Museveni’s administration.
