Former DRC President meets with women, youth in push for peace in eastern DRC

Date: Jun 4, 2025

Former President Joseph Kabila has met with women’s and youth groups in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as part of renewed efforts to restore peace across the country, particularly in the troubled eastern regions.

Speaking during the gathering in Goma, Kabila reaffirmed his commitment to national stability and called for unity in the face of ongoing violence. He said lasting peace would require the involvement of all sectors of society, especially women and young people, who are often among the most affected.

“Peace isn’t just the responsibility of leaders, it’s something we must all build together,” he told attendees.

Representatives from various associations welcomed Kabila’s remarks, pledging their support for initiatives aimed at ending the persistent insecurity.

The eastern DRC continues to grapple with armed conflict, with local communities bearing the brunt of attacks by various militia groups.
