Lamola is currently in Juba, where he met with other C5 ministers who are assisting South Sudan in its quest for stability and lasting peace. They also received briefings from President Salva Kiir and his first Vice President, Riek Machar.
The C5 countries' meeting in Juba follows South Sudan's decision to extend the mandate of the Revitalised Transitional Government of National Unity to February 2027, with elections now scheduled for December 2026.
Minister Lamola commended the current peace and stability in Juba, emphasising the need to sustain this momentum to silence the guns on the continent. He also called on the African Union (AU) to support Juba in its efforts.
Meanwhile, the ministers have committed to convening a meeting at the heads of state level on the margins of the AU summit in Ethiopia next month.
