“Trump assassination attempt contrary to what Americans stand for”

Date: Jul 15, 2024

United States President, Joe Biden, says there’s no place in America for the kind of violence that occurred when his predecessor Donald Trump was targeted in an assassination attempt while campaigning.

Biden says he has spoken briefly with Trump and has expressed gratitude that he’s doing well.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will lead the investigation into the attack as they continue to search for a motive that led 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks to embark on such a brazen attack before the Secret Service fatally shot him.

Trump posted on social media that he’d decided not to delay his departure for the Republican National Convention which starts in Milwaukee, Wisconsin today, an event where his Vice Presidential pick will be named and where Trump will formally be nominated as the Republican nominee for President in November’s election.

Biden, speaking from the White House yesterday, said an assassination attempt was contrary to everything Americans stood for as a nation and that the unity of the country was most important now.

He urged people to allow the FBI to do its work and establish the facts rather than speculate about the shooter’s motives or affiliations.

He said he’s instructed the Secret Service to provide Trump with all the protective measures to ensure his continued safety.
