This is as the situation is reportedly calm in Mozambique following a spate of violent protest action.
The disgruntled citizens are disputing the October general elections results.
Some of the Mozambicans who crossed the border today have expressed satisfaction with the current calm situation.
“I think it’s a good thing that the roads are open. I can say that the strike is lowered for now because there’s nothing. So at least for another week we can work,” says one of the people who have crossed the border.
Another person says, “There is nothing we can do, and we don’t have alternative routes. So, we should be brave and travel on the same roads. However, the protests are sporadic.”
“We can update that it’s business as usual at Lebombo. The cargo is moving both export and import. We are also business as usual in the passenger processing. I can confirm that today we have processed about 1 300 people that were coming in. It’s about 2 000 that are leaving. So, it’s business as usual. That’s what we can confirm as Lebombo Port Management Committee,” says Acting Port Commander for Lebombo Border Post Sam Ngomane.
