Trump revokes Secret Service Protection for Biden children

Date: Mar 18, 2025

US President Donald Trump has announced the immediate revocation of Secret Service protection for Hunter and Ashley Biden, the children of former President Joe Biden.

The decision, which Trump revealed on social media, has sparked widespread debate and criticism.

Trump cited the size of Hunter Biden's security detail, reportedly consisting of 18 agents, as "ridiculous" and unjustifiable. He also criticised Hunter's current holiday in South Africa (SA), describing the country as one where human rights have been "strenuously questioned."

Trump further stated that SA has been removed from the list of nations receiving US economic and financial assistance due to these concerns.

The move follows Trump's earlier remarks to a reporter, where he vowed to "look into" the matter of Hunter Biden's protective detail. Hours later, he confirmed the withdrawal of Secret Service protection for both Hunter and his sister Ashley, who reportedly had 13 agents assigned to her.

Hunter Biden, whose wife Melissa is SA-born, has been photographed in Cape Town during his vacation. The images, shared by the New York Post, have added fuel to the controversy, with critics questioning the necessity of such extensive security arrangements.

This decision marks the latest in a series of actions by Trump targeting the Biden family. It also raises questions about the implications for diplomatic relations between the US and SA, particularly in light of the country's removal from the US aid list.
