'US hostility tied to SA’s ICJ case against Israel'

Date: May 25, 2025

Former South African (SA) Ambassador to the United States (US) Ebrahim Rasool asserts that US’s hostile stance toward SA is rooted in Pretoria’s decision to take Israel to the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Speaking in Cape Town following SA President Cyril Ramaphosa’s recent meeting with Donald Trump, Rasool linked US antagonism to South Africa’s legal challenge against Israeli conduct in Gaza.

Rasool, who was expelled from the US and declared persona non grata after accusing Trump of leading a white supremacist movement, criticized Trump’s allegations of white genocide in South Africa as politically motivated.

“It is for that reason that Donald Trump accuses South Africa of having a genocide against white South Africans. The idea is, he says to South Africa, how can you accuse Israel of genocide when you are conducting a genocide against your white people. It is to try and create a false equivalence.”
