She is addressing a two-day conference aimed at promoting good governance in public institutions in Kempton Park, east of Johannesburg.
The inaugural event is hosted by her office, the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA) and the European Union (EU).
The conference will delve into the crucial role of oversight bodies across various sectors and explore how compliance can hold government and state organs accountable.
Gcaleka says, “I say without any fear of contradiction that South Africa has one of the best accountability and transparency mechanisms in the world. Part of the work we do as the Public Protector is to share our best practices of sectoral ombudsman, which many countries are grappling with and therefore it is our institutional mechanism that we pride ourselves with.”
