US Embassy praises SA Police for rescuing kidnapped US American Pastor

Date: Apr 17, 2025

The United States (US) Embassy in South Africa (SA) has commended the country’s law enforcement agencies for their swift and co-ordinated efforts in locating and rescuing Pastor Josh Sullivan.

The American citizen was kidnapped during a robbery at Fellowship Baptist Church in Motherwell, Gqeberha.

Sullivan, who moved to South Africa in 2018 to oversee the church, was abducted earlier this week while his family was attending the service. The incident sparked a multi-agency investigation, with the Hawks leading the operation alongside the Serious Organised Crime Investigation Team, Anti-Gang Unit, Crime Intelligence, and other partners.

“We extend our sincere appreciation to the SAPolice Service for their professionalism and decisive action. We are committed to continuing our collaboration with SA authorities to ensure the safety and security of US citizens,”said the US Embassy in a statement.

The embassy also reaffirmed its dedication to working closely with local counterparts to strengthen security co-operation.
