His comments come amid renewed international efforts to halt the conflict, with former United States President Donald Trump also calling for an unconditional 30-day ceasefire.
Lamola emphasised that negotiations will be vital once a ceasefire comes into effect.
"SA has always contended that once a ceasefire is in place, everything must be discussed. We must continue to call for a ceasefire between the two countries, Russia and Ukraine. Peace must be found at the negotiation table by both parties, with the support of the international community," he said.
