The situation is particularly dire in three eastern provinces, where 6.2 million people are experiencing acute food shortages. Peter Musoko, the World Food Programme's Country Director, has expressed grave concerns over the deteriorating humanitarian conditions.
Musoko highlighted the unfortunate convergence of conflict, climate change, and health crises as the primary drivers of this emergency. The ongoing conflict has been especially devastating, displacing upwards of 2.9 million people within the country this year alone.
