This follows the Department of Home Affairs announcing yesterday that it had reasons to believe that her mother might have committed fraud and identity theft.
It also said Adetshina could not have participated in her mother’s alleged unlawful actions as she was an infant when they happened.
In a statement, Adetshina says, “Being part of the Miss South Africa 2024 competition has been an amazing journey, however, after much careful consideration, I have made the difficult decision to withdraw from the competition for the safety and wellbeing of my family and I.”
Meanwhile, legal expert Mkhosi Radebe has called on the Home Affairs Department to act with speed to conclude its investigation into the citizenship of Adetshina.
The 2024 pageant is set to take place at the weekend.
Radebe says she needs to know where she stands with the pageant.
“The investigation must be thorough, must be done expeditiously, and the competition should be running as soon as possible. Imagine if she was to win, considering how South Africans are feeling about migration. Most South Africans do not understand migration. There are all sorts of allegations that people from outside South Africa are creating tension, they are stealing jobs and all sorts of things. So, imagine if she was to win”.
