This year, the foundation aligns with the World Action on Salt, Sugar and Health (WASSH) theme dubbed, "5 Ways to 5 Grams".
The campaign seeks to highlight the critical link between excessive salt intake and heart and brain health. This theme provides a clear roadmap to reducing salt consumption and protecting health outcomes.
The foundation’s Chief Executive Officer, Professor Pamela Naidoo explained the role of salt in fueling high blood pressure, heart disease and strokes.
“So, World Salt Awareness Week is a global campaign to raise awareness on the dangers of excessive salt consumption because people don’t realise that in your food, you naturally have salt and then they add discretionally salt, like your table salt and that leads to heart disease and strokes and other problems like kidney disorders,” Naidoo said.
