Deputy Commander Mujahid Aminudeen confirmed that 20 people were detained for eating and drinking in public during fasting hours, while five others were arrested for selling food.
Aminudeen warned that any disrespect for Ramadan would not be tolerated. “Anyone caught breaking the fasting rules will be arrested and punished according to Sharia law,” he said.
In addition to the fasting violations, the police arrested individuals for inappropriate haircuts, wearing shorts above the knee, and tricycle drivers mixing male and female passengers. Aminudeen noted that these actions also violate Islamic public morals.
Unlike last year, when those caught not fasting were released after promising to comply, this year’s offenders will face court proceedings. “This time, the offenders will be tried in court and will face the full consequences of their actions,” Aminudeen added.
