In a statement released on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation said the President is alive, in good health, and continues to perform his duties. The Ministry described the rumours as part of a “deliberate attempt to spread confusion and create unnecessary panic” in the capital, Juba.
“This kind of misinformation is not only baseless and irresponsible, but it also serves the interests of those intent on undermining the country’s stability and progress,” the Ministry said.
The statement comes at a time of growing political tension in the country. The United Nations (UN) Security Council has extended the mandate of the UN Mission in South Sudan, which continues to play a key role in supporting peace and protecting civilians.
Authorities have urged the public to rely on official channels for credible updates and to remain calm in the face of unverified online speculation.
