Date: Jan 28, 2025

South Africa's President Cyril Ramaphosa has signed the Housing Consumer Protection Bill into law. It protects housing consumers and supports new entrants in the home building industry.

The legislation seeks to address challenges that the Human Settlements Department and the National Home Builders Registration Council have identified.

This is with regard to the Housing Consumers Protection Measures Act of 1998. Presidential Spokesperson Vincent Magwenya,” The President has also signed the Marine Pollution Prevention of Pollution from Ships Amendment Bill into law. It provides for stronger measures to protect the country's oceans from ship-related pollution.”

The law deals with such matters as the personal liability of the members, directors or trustees of a homebuilder; duties of estate agents, financial institutions and conveyers.
